BIG GLOOM

Just as we noted with Act One, the actual number of beats may vary. But as it dramatizes the bulk of the story, the second act invariably contains the largest number of episodes of any of the acts.

It might not contain ALL the elements we just described, and it may contain them in a different order. Again, it all depends on the individual story and its unique requirements. Still, over and over, in movie after movie, we can observe a similar pattern of beats, one that corresponds nicely to Aristotle’ s description of the Middle.
